The DG Compound for the Ministry of Defence, Islamabad is conceived as a formal institutional campus rooted in classical revival architecture, reflecting the values of democracy, governance, and civic order. Developed on a two-kanal site, the project adopts a low-rise, pavilion-based arrangement that emphasizes symmetry, clarity, and legibility, key principles associated with democratic public architecture.

Colonnaded porticos, balanced proportions, and articulated pediments establish a dignified civic presence, reinforcing authority through order rather than monumentality. The material palette is deliberately restrained, employing light-toned stone finishes, textured plaster surfaces, and solid masonry elements to convey permanence, stability, and institutional credibility. These materials are selected for durability and aging, ensuring the compound maintains its presence over time.

Landscaped courts and transitional outdoor spaces soften the formal composition, introducing human scale while preserving protocol-driven planning and security requirements.
